Vermeire is recognized as a pastellist and as an oil painter. This atmospheric pastel entitled "La Porte de Hal" in Brussels was done in the
beginning of the 20th century. The twilight hour also called "l'heure
bleue" is captured with extraordinary immediacy, mystery, and romanticism.
La Porte de Hal is the only remaining gate of a medieval wall, which at a
time surrounded the whole town of Brussels. Vermeire's work can be seen in
private collections in Brussels, Paris, Cannes, London, and Amsterdam. |
